How booking works
Search your route, pick a pickup time, and choose your vehicle. You do not need to book well in advance. Oray works with a large network of taxi operators, so a nearby cab is usually available at short notice. For outstation and long trips from Chennai, drivers are typically assigned within 15 to 20 minutes. For local errands, availability is usually better, with cabs assigned in 5 to 10 minutes. Availability varies by city, day of the week and demand.
Transparent, upfront pricing
Every taxi operator sets its own minimum trip distance, standard practice across the industry worldwide, and it varies by operator, vehicle and city. Rather than hide it, Oray's system checks it automatically for every route and shows you the exact fare before you confirm, so there are no surprises at drop-off. Tolls, state permits and parking are billed separately from the base fare, based on your actual route and cost, not folded invisibly into the quote.
If your drop-off time means your driver cannot reasonably return the same day, a standard daily driver allowance, known locally as bata, applies for that night.
Choose your vehicle
Pick a hatchback for a budget-friendly ride, a sedan for the standard comfort tier, or an SUV if you are travelling with more passengers or luggage. Each is priced accordingly, and you select the type directly in the app before you confirm.
Some trips need more than a vehicle choice. If you would prefer an experienced, senior driver for an elderly or unwell passenger, a female driver, a driver who speaks a particular Indian language, or a hood carrier fitted for extra or oversized luggage, contact Oray customer care and we will arrange a vehicle and driver that matches what you need. These preferences are also built into the app itself, so regular travellers can save them for future bookings.
Verified drivers, real accountability
Every driver on the Oray platform is background-checked before their first trip. You get the driver's name, vehicle number and estimated arrival before pickup, and you can track your trip from booking to drop-off. If your plans shift after booking, Oray's support team is reachable directly through the app, not buried behind a call centre queue.
Payment and cancellation
Pay by UPI, card or net banking at the time of booking, or settle the balance in cash at drop-off. Plans change: cancel before the cut-off window shown on your booking and there is no fee. Cancel after that window and a partial charge applies.

## Round Trip vs. Packages, how they actually differ (learned drafting Card 2)
- **Round Trip**: exclusively outstation. Start at X, travel to Y (or several places), return to approximately X. Defining feature is returning to the start point. Same cab and driver throughout. Can span multiple days with the driver waiting overnight at the destination. No free waiting window, billed from the driver's arrival at the destination. - **Packages**: typically within-city, sold as fixed hour blocks (2, 3, 5, 10+ hours) with a set km allowance included per block; extra time/km charged as used. The customer does NOT need to end at the starting point, just specify the endpoint for pricing. This is a meaningfully different product from Round Trip, not a longer version of it, revisit Card 5's draft with this in mind, not the "long multi-day outstation" framing assumed earlier.
